What a great 5 miler today! I ran an old course I haven't done in a while that included 3 big hills. Loved it and wish I had more time to do more. According to my training schedule I was supposed to run 2-3 miles but I felt like doing more. I struggle with the training schedule sometime because of the few miles during the week. One long run a week and small runs, consisting of 2-5 miles seems so little to me. I want to do more to burn more calories and I just like to run. What do you guys do? Can someone help me understand why this is and if it's important to follow the training schedule exactly? To me just running seems like training, but all of these special runs…training, tempo, speed…I get confused and often wonder…is it really needed? Any advice would be great.
One thing I find while I run is sometime "thinking" can be exhausting...does that make sense? Sounds weird I know but on a long run when you start to get fatigued focusing on some major things can make me even more fatigued. What I love about listening to my Christian music is it lets me just listen and meditate on God's truth while I run. I LOVE IT! I can't tell you what it does for me. It's one of the main reasons I love to run...it's my time to talk to God and also hear from him. The Christian Artists right now are writing amazing "Truth" songs...that's what I call songs that aren't just emotional songs, but songs that actually tell you something about who Christ is and all he has done for us. I LOVE IT! It also helps when it's a beautiful day, with the sun shining and clear, blue skies! Gods Creation....beautiful!
Stats:
Distance 5.16 miles
Pace: 10:41
Time: 55 minutes
Calories burned: 664
974.50 - 5.16 = 969.34 miles left to run in 2010

I'm glad you had a great run!
Maybe you need a more challenging training plan? GEt your speed work and tempo runs in and make sure you recover. TRaining plans are designed to get you ready for the race without getting injured. But only you know your body!!
If you want to do more do more :)
You can do more during the week, just make sure that once you get into it you are well rested for your long runs. Your long slow runs are the most important thing in the training program.
I like to think during my runs. Thats when I solve all the problems of the world. Lol
Good luck.
